WA Mining Weekly Jun 8 - 14
A first gold pour, a $250M expansion play hiding in plain sight, and a district-scale land grab before the market catches on.
This Week’s Big Stories
Mt Malcolm Shuffles Deck After Golden Crown Cash Flow
Mt Malcolm Gold Holdings Pty Ltd, a 155-tenement holder operating at major scale in the Mt Margaret mineral field, has applied for six new prospecting licences (including P37/10111 and P37/10110) while simultaneously dropping five others (including P37/10102 and P37/10105). One peg-and-drop stands out: P37/10105 was applied on 2026-06-07 and surrendered two days later by the same holder, a pattern that typically signals rapid ground-testing rather than a committed exploration program. The tenure reshuffle reportedly follows material progress at the Golden Crown prospect. According to company ASX announcements, a bulk sampling program poured 122.4 ounces of gold doré, generating approximately $278,000 in revenue, with metallurgical recoveries reportedly reaching 94.8%. Company drill results include individual assays up to 111 g/t Au, and a Maiden Mineral Resource Estimate has since been published for the Golden Crown and Dumbarton prospects. Whether the five dropped licences represent genuinely barren ground or simply a portfolio tidy-up ahead of a resource update is worth watching; the two-day peg-and-drop on P37/10105 suggests at least some of the surrendered blocks were tested and found wanting quickly.
Evolution’s Mungari Masterplan Hides Behind Toledo Transfer
Northern Star Resources has transferred 18 tenements to Toledo Tenement Holdings, a transaction that reads as routine until you check the corporate registry. DMPE registry records indicate Toledo Tenement Holdings Pty Ltd is a 100% owned subsidiary of Evolution Mining, meaning the ground never left the Evolution orbit. Industry context suggests this transfer represents the tenure settlement from Evolution’s acquisition of the Kundana assets, moving the licences into the correct corporate vehicle now that the deal has settled. The strategic weight here is considerable: Evolution Mining’s published guidance describes a $250 million expansion of its Mungari processing hub, with capacity reportedly increasing from 2.0 Mtpa to 4.2 Mtpa. Company guidance points to a mine-life extension running to approximately 2038. Kundana’s high-grade satellite ore is the feed stock that justifies that capital commitment. Tenements including P16/2977, M16/531, and E24/167 are now positioned inside the corporate structure that will supply Mungari through its expanded life. Readers watching Evolution’s capital allocation should treat this transfer as the tenure side of a deal already priced into the equity.
Kalamazoo’s Regional Roll-Up Hits Ashburton Basin
Kalamazoo Resources Limited has applied for three E52 exploration licences (E52/4612, E52/4611, E52/4610) covering 16,430 hectares in the Ashburton mineral field. That is a single application round adding meaningful scale to what industry context suggests is a deliberate district-scale consolidation play around the company’s core Ashburton position. Company resource statements put the Ashburton Gold Project at 1.44 Moz, and a published Scoping Study outlined potential production of 524,000 oz with approximately $1.4 billion in free cashflow. According to ASX announcements, Kalamazoo also acquired the 142 km² Xanadu Gold Project from Platina Resources, with company technical reports describing Carlin-style mineralisation targets. The new E52 blocks reportedly extend coverage along structural corridors proximal to the Mt Olympus deposit, though the precise fault geometry remains subject to ongoing interpretation. Company guidance describes Ashburton as moving toward Pre-Feasibility study, which makes the timing of these applications logical: locking down regional ground is cheaper before a PFS re-rates the project. E52/4612 offers the clearest map view of the expanded footprint.
